Bradford Flowering Pear

This flowering tree grows best in full sun. They are pest- and pollution-resistant, and tolerate drought well. Bradford Pear trees are shallow-rooted and will tolerate most soil types. It is one of the most fireblight-resistant cultivar of the flowering pears. A great benefit of the Bradford is that it is a rapid grower, achieving a 12 to 15 feet increase in height over an 8- to 10-year period. The Bradford pear is a beautiful garden addition that produces no edible fruit. Box Elder Maple These shade trees have brittle wood. It has a thick trunk and upright branching habit, but is more often seen as a smaller tree with cane-like, bright green branches. The trunk is relatively short and tapering, and the crown is spreading and bushy. Boxelder bugs eat seeds on female trees. Although it grows best on moist soils, box-elder is drought and cold resistant.
