Coleus - Gay's Delight
If a coleus plant is allowed to seed, it has completed its life cycle and will die. The brilliant colors explode in sunny locations. Plants suffering from "wet feet" will be stunted, leaves will turn a muddy brown, and leaf margins will be scorched. Coleus must have good soil drainage. The coleus plants are a tender perennials. For zones 10-11, this plant can also be a perennial. Poorly drained soils and excessive watering will damage coleus. Frost will cause them to die immediately. These new, bigger, sun loving varieties have revolutionized contanier gardening. Coleus plants are so colorful that many people keep them and use them as a house plant. The Coleus Gay's Delight, 'Coleus hybrid', has lime green leaves with red to purple markings. These plants will do best in temperatures above 55 degrees. The Fuchsia ShadowDancer® Violette, 'Fuchsia hybrid', is a very early blooming Fuschia with exceptional uniformity and compact growth. The pastel pink violet flowers flowers perch well above the bushy small leaved foliage. They are great plants for greenhouses, window boxes, baskets, homes, and flower beds. The flowers, which are produced during the summer and early fall, are droopy and come in many colors. Keep the soil moist to the touch from spring through autumn.
