Coleus - Kong Scarlet

The Coleus Kong Scarlet, 'Coleus hybrid', has deep scarlet leaves with green edges and a bronze midrib. These new, bigger, sun loving varieties have revolutionized container gardening. The brilliant colors explode in sunny locations. Coleus plants are durable and easy to grow however they are tender annuals. Frost will cause them to die immediately. Coleus plants are so colorful that many people keep them and use them as a house plant. These plants will do best in temperatures above 55 degrees. Flower buds should be pinched off as soon as they develop. If a coleus plant is allowed to seed, it has completed its life cycle and will die. Coleus must have good soil drainage. Daisy's require a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil and should be kept well watered in the summer. The daisy is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds, plus they are resistant to deer. These daisys are winter hardy to USDA Zones 10-11 and they are grown as an annual in other cooler climatic zones. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional bloom. The deeply cut, dark green leaves are aromatic when bruised. For zones 9-11, this plant can also be a perennial.
