Dianthus - Rubys Tuesday
The Dianthus 'Rubys Tuesday', Dianthus Hybrid, has flowers that are a deep red carnation with a sweet fragrance. Their very compact habit and free blooming nature make the 'Ruby Tuesday' Dianthus a stand out both in container gardens and perennial borders. Dianthus will bloom from mid summer to early fall. In order for a longer bloom time, deadhead the blooms continuously throughout the summer. Dianthus needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon and humidity. These fragrant, spicy dove like flowers look wonderful as a border plant, rock gardens, along walks or paths, for edging and a definite in cottage gardens. Bleeding Heart - Goldheart The Bleeding Heart 'Gold Heart', Dicentra spectabilis 'Gold Heart' (CPBR#0974), is a fast-growing perennial with rose pink, heart-shaped flowers. The blooms look wonderful against its bright gold foliage. Bleeding Heart's should be planted in full sun to partial shade but will also do well in full shade. It is somewhat heat tolerant and needs moist soil. Do not let the soil dry out. Dicentra will bloom from late spring to early summer and is a major attractor to butterflies. Bleeding Heart's are perfect as border plants or in a shade garden. |
