Gaillardia - Dwarf Goblin
The Gaillardia Goblin, 'Gaillardia grandiflora', is commonly called Blanket Flower. The Goblin is a dwarf Gaillardia that is easy to grow and blooms continuously. This compact plant is perfect for the front of the border. The semi-double flowers are 3 inches wide and are a deep red with wide gold edges. Goblins will bloom continuously from early summer until first frost. This star garden performer also attracts butterflies. Goblin Gaillardia prefer full sun and average well drained soil. They will not tolerate heavy wet soil in the winter. Deadhead the spent flowers regularly. Plant in the spring as soon as the soil can be worked or in the summer/early fall, or at least 2 months before first fall frost. Aster - Tall Matsumoto The Aster Tall Matsumoto, 'Callistephus chinensis', is a florist quality cut flower variety with tall, strong stems and an unusual bi-color flower with a yellow center. It will provide an "end-of-the-season pick-me-up" with its dazzling, radiant, medium sized flowers. The 2 inch wide flowers have white petals tipped bright pink with contrasting yellow centers. The Tall Matsumoto blooms from mid to late summer up to the first hard fall frost. The Aster Milady prefers rich, deep, light soil. Add compost to improve marginal soil quality. The plants require average water and they do not like to dry out. Pinch off faded flowers to encourage new blooms. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date.
