Juniper - Blue Forest
Junipers are used as ground covers, in foundation plantings, or as hedges, screens or windbreaks. Junipers are important evergreens for landscape use due to their tolerance of unfavorable soil conditions, their hardiness and great variation in size, habit, color and growth rate. Blue Forest Juniper, Juniperus sabina 'Blue Forest', is a distinctive groundcover-type evergreen that has very attractive silvery-blue foliage. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, but very adaptable. These plants may also be utilized for background plantings in shrub beds or flower gardens, as specimen plants, in rock gardens or for topiary or espalier purposes. Needs full sun, and once established, little maintenance is required. It is urban tolerant. Looks great when planted above a boulder retaining wall. It has a medium texture and a slow growth rate. This evergreen shrub has a wide-spreading habit with a somewhat vase shape that grows 4' to 6' tall with a greater spread. The upright growing branches present the "look" of a miniature "blue forest". ... additional info
Barberry-Red Leaf Japanese The Barberry bush or RedLeaf Japanese bush, Berberis thunbergii, is a deciduous shrub reaching up to 24" tall and about 30" wide. The small, yellow flowers borne beneath leaves, from April to May, are not showy. Ironically, this is never really considered a feature of this plant. This plant is tolerant of many types of soil, but will not do well in wet to very moist soils. As name Barberry implies, this makes an excellent hedge or filler shrub. |
