Pumpkin - Little October

The Pumpkin Little October, 'Cucurbita pepo', is a mini-pumpkin with smooth skin that is ideal for holiday decorations. Looking for an ideal family craft project? After your "mini-gardeners' have helped grow this mini-pumpkin from seed to harvest, let them loose with acrylic paints or permanent markers. Spray with a polyurethane glaze to preserve the creative results. The pumpkins average 3 to 4 inches in diameter and 8 to 12 ounces in weight. Plant in the spring 2 to 4 weeks after the last average frost date. In warm climates plant in February or late summer for fall harvest. Pumpkins prefer rich well drained soil that is high in organic matter. The soil should be kept evenly moist. Harvest before the first light frost or when the pumpkin foliage begins to dry out. ... find out more

Cabbage - Discovery The Cabbage Discovery, 'Brassica oleracea (Hybrid)', is so tasty and so sweet that Discovery is the only cabbage a national food chain will use. Discovery is an early to mid-sason variety. These compact 7 to 8 inch round heads will fit in any nook or cranny your garden might offer. They are much better than the grocery store cabbage. Discovery is easy to grow and is a great container variety. Plant in the spring, 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost for summer harvest. In warm climates, plant in the fall for winter harvest. Discovery Cabbage prefers rich, moist, well drained soil with lots of organic matter. Harvest the heads after they firm up and are solid when squeezed.
