Rose of Sharon - Helene

Helene Hibiscus, Hibiscus syriacus 'Helene', is an upright shrub with large saucer shaped flowers that bloom from July until frost. Its flowers are single, pure white, with a red center. This waxy dark green foliaged plant is valuable as a specimen plant. Helene is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade, but its best flowering occurs in full sun. It tolerates poor soils and some drought, is very tolerant of summer heat and humidity, and generally tolerant of urban conditions. If you prune in the spring it will keep its shape. This xeriscape plant is a vigorous, upright, vase-shaped, deciduous shrub that typically grows 8-12’ tall. Helene may be massed, planted in groups, used as a specimen, a foundation plant, or shrub borders. It can also be used as a hedge or screen. It has no serious insect or disease problems. ... additional information
