Strobilanthes - Persian Shield

Warmer temperatures enhance the leaf color. Persian Shield performs best in partial shade, planted in well drained organic soil. In summers with sweltering heat, this plant displays multi-colored foliage that is always exquisite. They are widely used in landscape beds or in mixed containers. Persian Shield tends to get tall and fall over, so pinch back a few times in the first half of the growing season to induce branching and bushier foliage. The Strobilanthes Persian Shield, 'Strobilanthes dyerianus', is an Athens Select variety. The leaves are a flushed purple with silver iridescence and dark purple underneath. The Cleome Lindy Armstrong, 'Cleome', is a Proven Selection plant with rosey pink flowers. Lindy Armstrong looks great well into the summer and they do not seem to be bothered by heat or insects. This plant will bloom from summer into early fall and they will do best on well drained soils. The flowers appear on a compact, thornless plant with phenomenal heat tolerance. Cleome are used for cuttings, beds, and borders.
