Sweet Pea - Perfume Delight
The Sweet Pea Perfume Delight, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is a mixture of several colors of very fragrant sweet peas. The fragrance of these flowers will take you to times past. The flowers are slightly smaller, 3/4 to 1 inch flowers, than other annual sweet peas, but they are more heat resistant. They will bloom about 1 week longer than other sweet peas. The flower colors are purple, red, rose, white, pink, blue, scarlet, cream, and salmon. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Perfume Delight is very early planting. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Plant this sweet pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked.
