Tomato - Aunt Rubys German Green
The Tomato Pole Aunt Ruby's German Green, 'Lycopersicon lycopersicum', is an old Heirloom variety. It is not the prettiest tomato, but it is spicy and sweet and very delicious. We think Aunt Ruby's German Green is the best flavored green tomato. The tomatoes are a large, beefsteak type with 12 to 16 ounce fruits. The Aunt Ruby's tomato ripens to a pale green with a hint of yellow. Aunt Ruby's German Green is an intermediate tomato which means they continue to grow indefinitely until frost. Tomatoes are generally started inside. They may also be seeded outside after the last average frost date. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. Eggplant - Bambino It is also an attractive ornamental. The 1 foot tall plants are excellent in pots and display large, lavender flowers over an extended period. They are often used as a vegetarian substitute for expensive meats. Plant in the spring, 3 to 4 weeks after the last average frost date. Ground temperature needs to very warm for seed to germinate. Provide 1 inch of water a week if it does not rain. |
